mission

The mission of the Shore Line Interurban Historical Society, a not-for-profit corporation is to preserve the history and to report current events of railroad passenger services in Chicago and the surrounding region. The Society achieves its mission through educating its members and the public on the operations and technical aspects of commuter railroads, past and present, Amtrak, interurbans and urban street and rapid transit railways through the following methods of outreach:
  • Publication of Shore Line's signature magazine, First & Fastest and its Dispatch series publications;
  • Back issues of First & Fastest on Shore Line's Web-site and posts of information and photographs on social media;
  • The support of its members and friends, and their respective resources, recollections and collections;
  • Cooperation and educational activities with railway historical societies, museums, libraries and other institutions;
  • Input from operators of passenger railroads in our area of interest.
